For most people visiting New Zealand, it's not long before they realise that there's so much to do and see, that their holidays are simply not long enough.

- Boat tours – For travellers visiting Milford Sound for one day only, a cruise of the sounds generally takes between one and two hours.

- Underwater observatory – Provides viewing of black coral, usually only found in much deeper waters.
- Canoeing – Kayaking or canoeing with Mitre Peak as your backdrop is an unforgettable experience.
- Hiking – The big drawcard of the Milford area for many outdoor enthusiasts are the hiking and walking opportunities available in the area. Not only is there the famous Milford Track (53.5 km), but the Kepler, Hollyford, Routeburn Tracks amongst others.
- Scenic flights – Helicopter, fixed wing and float planes offer flightseeing opportunities.
- Fishing and hunting – Permits need to be obtained, but for visitors staying in the area longer, deer, wapiti and possums can be hunted, whilst lakes and rivers offer excellent fishing for brown and rainbow trout.
