Milford Sound, like much of New Zealand, can experience four seasons in one day. In order to be comfortable on your day tour, be well-prepared and remember to pack:
- A raincoat, hat and umbrella
- Warm jacket (e.g. fleece)
- Warm clothing (jumpers, hats, gloves, scarves)
- Sunglasses, sunscreen and sunhat
- Sturdy walking shoes or boots
- A video camera or camera (and a spare memory card or two).
Milford Sound Climate and Seasons
- December, January and February – Summer, the warmest months of the year. Temperature averages 17-19°C.
- March, April, May – Autumn, temperature a little cooler than summer months, but still very pleasant. Temperature averages 13-18°C.
- June, July and August – Winter, mostly mild but can get cold. Temperature averages 9-11°C.
- September, October, November – Spring, cool and frosty to warm and hot. Temperature averages 13-16°C.
